Location

Cordele is located at Exits 101 and 102 on Interstate 75, about 150 miles south of Atlanta. Once off the interstate on one of the exits, just follow the airport signs to the Crisp County - Cordele Airport.

Where to stay & What to do

For those seeking hotel accommodations, there are several in the town of Cordele and then another at Lake Blackshear - west of Cordele.

However, every year the Best Western Colonial Inn specifically welcomes our pilots by offering a special "Glider rate" for their stay.

To take advantage of this special rate make sure you call them directly at (229)-273-5420 for your reservation and mention the soaring contest.

In addition to nice rooms, this accommodation offers a great breakfast buffet and the retreat of a large and welcoming swimming pool after a hot contest day.

Airport Rules for RV and Tie-down

At Crisp County-Cordele Airport you will find out we are all welcomed, with kids and pets (latter on leashes of course), to camp or stay with RVs.  The recently expanded RV area at the airport has available several fully equipped hook-ups with electricity, water and sewage ($27 per night), as well as others that only include electricity and water ($20 per night). There are plenty of available RV spots on the airport but do please reach out to us earlier rather than later at flycordele@yahoo.com for reservations in advance.

We may have waste dumping service available, provided we have a sufficient number RV's needing the service. Other options for dumping include Loves at Exit 102 and Pilot at Exit 101.

For those who plan to attend, when you arrive at the airport gate, please make sure that your make a sharp left turn after you go through the gate and proceed BETWEEN the fence and the gas pumps down past the hanger row on the right.   Do not go in front of the airport offices.   You will proceed to the end of the front row of hangers, make a right turn then an immediate left turn to proceed down the taxiway going to runway 10. Glider trailers may be parked on either side of the taxiway from the main airport ramp area out to RWY 10. The airport layout is here.

The airport management is extremely supportive of the contest and we ask that you read and are mindful of the airport rules before you attend.

Flying before the Contest

Make sure you know the airport rules such as the routine for crossing the main runway and where you can and cannot take your automobile while on the airport property. Please check in with the organizers before you fly to let them know your plans and allow them to make the necessary arrangements for you.

Note: you must be signed up for the contest before you fly on any of the practice days and contest days.
